City of Bradford swimmers get gold and bronzes in Sheffield
City of Bradford Swimming Club enjoyed a successful North East Regional Championships, coming home with three medals courtesy of Gina Warrior, Jasmine Shay and Kia Mayers.
The event took place in Sheffield on the first weekend of November, with Gina Warrior claiming gold in the Open years 50m backstroke with a time of 28.58.
The teenager also claimed three fourth place finishes in the 100m and 200m Backstroke, as well as the 200m individual medley.
Gina continues to fly the flag for City of Bradford, having won the Amateur Sportswoman of the Year prize at the Bradford Sports Awards six months ago.
Also on the medal rostrum in Sheffield was Jasmine Shay, who was swimming in the Open years events despite still being only 16 years of age.
She took home a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly in a time of 28.85, while she came seventh in the longer 100m event.
Swimming in the 15/16 years events, Kai Mayers claimed bronze in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 30.73
He then went on to take final positions in the 50m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.
Mayers stormed home in just over a minute for the latter event, with his time of 1.01.06 a new club record.
The other top-10 finishers for City of Bradford Swimming Club during the event at Ponds Forge were Dexter Woodward, Maisie Ray, Isabelle Randhawa and Sam Naylor.
All of the club’s swimmers train on the Bradford Council-run Aquatics Competition programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
