Building on the hard work put in during their week long training camp in Palma Majorca earlier this year, City’s swimmers saw their hard work pay dividends when they won a host of medals at the Yorkshire Age Groups championships.
Once again it was Sian Morgan who came home with the elusive gold medals. Her wins coming in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 200m and 400m Individual medley, and 50m backstroke. She was also placed second in the 50m and 200m breaststroke, and 50m, 100m, 400m and 800m freestyle, third in the100m breaststroke and 4th in the 100m and 200m backstroke. Her time of 5.07.77 was a new national qualifying time.
Next week Sian will represent City of Bradford at the Olympic Trials being held in Sheffield.
Silver medals went to James Dawson of Skipton in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly. He followed this success with bronze medals in the 400m individual medley and final placings in the 200m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
Gritty determination saw thirteen year old Sam O’Donohoe claimed his first national qualifying time of the season with a bronze medal in the boys 200m freestyle and also claimed silver in the 100m freestyle, bronze in the 400m event. He rounded off the weekend with final placings in the 50m freestyle, 50m 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m and100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, and 50m breaststroke.
Breaststroke specialist David Brown put in a good all round performance in the 50m 100m when he finished in silver medal position, he also finished in sixth place in the 200m event. And seventh in the200m backstroke.
Up and coming eleven year old Ellie Talbot of Keighley was on the rostrum on three occasions winning bronze medals in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and freestyle. She also finished sixth in the 50m breaststroke.
Other finalists were Lydia Biddiscombe, Niki Chatburn, and Joshua Zenner along with seven of the clubs age groups teams.
