Fresh from her success at the Gateshead and Whickham Burns Meet, Sian Morgan competed for the first time in the gruelling 1500m freestyle and at the same time added the event to her tally of National qualifying times for the National Youth Champs later this summer.
Swimming as a fifteen and under she claimed silvers in the 1500m Open and also the girls under fifteen event and bronzes in the equivalent 800m events.
Breaststroke swimming was the order of the day when Luke Constantine and David Brown both featured in the 50m breaststroke claiming second and third place respectively in the Junior category.
Connonley’s Jenna Chatburn finished in bronze medal position in the Women’s Open and Junior girls 50m breaststroke and in sixth place in the Women’s 100m event.
Ben Balmforth of Ilkley was the only other medallist with a bronze in the Junior boys 100m breaststroke.
Michael Bonson claimed three top ten places in the Men’s Open events with a fourth place finish in the 800m freestyle and ninth places in the longer 1500m event and the 400m individual medley.
Last year’s National Qualifier Lucy Burnside finished in eighth place in the Junior girls 200m butterfly and ninth place in the 50m freestyle sprint.
Sian Freeman claimed ninth place in the Women’s Open 50m breaststroke and the final place of the weekend went to the Women’s 4 x 50m freestyle team consisting of Freeman, Burnside, Megan Bowes Ayres and Rosemary Preston who finished in tenth place.
