James Dawson was in confident mood at the Yorkshire Age Group Championships held at Leeds and Sheffield. The fourteen year old came home with no less than four gold medals from the 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 200m and 400m individual medley events. Not content with gold medals he continued his rich vein of form to place second in the 100m and 200m backstroke and third in the 100m and 200m butterfly. He rounded off the sessions with final placings in the 100m and 200m freestyle.
Twelve year old Ellie Talbot clinched gold’s in the 100m and 200m backstroke and finaled in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medleys.
James Lund demonstrated superb pacing to claim the gold medal in the boys ten years 200m breaststroke and showed his versatility by claiming final placings in the 200m and 400m medley events, 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke.
Junior Development squad member Azura Cairns-Poole claimed silver in the ten years 200m butterfly and then went on to win bronze in the 400m individual medley.
Silver medals also went to Hannah Beaumont in the eleven years 400m individual medley and Josh Zenner in the fourteen years 200m individual medley. Beaumont also collected four further final finishes and Zenner finished with seven final placings to his credit.
Jessica Foulds hit the medal winning trail in the thirteen years 400m individual medley with a bronze medal and had four final placings.
Other finalists were Megan Lee, Mille Foulds, Isobel Mawson, Isobel and Myles Stirk, Joshua Walker and James Blaby.
The Championship series continues this weekend at Ponds Forge, Sheffield with the sprint and teams events.

AGE GROUP SPRINTS AND TEAM EVENTS

Following his success earlier this, month in the longer distance events fourteen year old James Dawson showed his versatility by winning both the 50m breaststroke and butterfly events at the Yorkshire sprint meet. He also continued his rich vein of form when he took silver in the backstroke and bronze in the freestyle.
Twelve year old Ellie Talbot added to her medal tally with a win the 50m backstroke and finaled in the butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.
Having previously claimed victory on the 200m breaststroke, ten year old James Lund added the 50m sprint to his collection.
Ten year old Myles Stirk claimed a podium place in the 50m freestyle when he took the silver and then went on to take fourth place in the 50m backstroke.
City’s other medallists were also both in the ten year old age group when Isobel Mawson clinched bronze in the 50m breaststroke and Azura Cairns- Poole took home a bronze in the 50m butterfly and a seventh place finish in the 50m freestyle.
Other finalists were Isobel Stirk, Josh Zenner, Joshua Walker, Jessica Foulds, Chelsie Reardon and Matthew Brown.
The Championship series rounded off with the team events and once again it was the nine/ ten year girls who stole the limelight.
The freestyle team of Cairns-Poole, Megan Lee, Mille Foulds and Laura Hartley took silver and when Isobel Mawson swam the breaststroke leg of the medley team they also took silver.
The thirteen years freestyle team of Isobel Stirk, Nicole Fordham, Joanna Gledhill and Jessica Foulds were placed in bronze medal position in their age group freestyle team.
In total nine of City’s teams had final placings which delighted the coaching staff. All swimmers train with Bradford Council’s Aquatic Coaching Scheme.
James Dawson won the fourteen years age group Bagcat points and Josh Zenner was third in the same age group. James Lund finished third in the ten years age group
