Fresh from their success at both the Darlington Meet and Leeds Early Bird Meet City’s swimmers competed in the Yorkshire Swimming Association’s Winter Short Course Championship held at Ponds Forge Sheffield.
Once again it was fourteen year old Sam O’Donohoe who stole the limelight in winning his first County title. His gold medal winning swim came in the 200m individual medley where he recorded a time of 2.17.39. Not content with his title O’Donohoe went on to claim silver medals in the 100m backstroke and breaststroke and bronze in the 100m butterfly and freestyle.
O’Donohoe was the only City medallist but fine performances came from James Dawson, who claimed three final placings in the boys thirteen years 100m breaststroke, backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Fast improving James Lund finished in eighth place in the boys nine years 50m breaststroke whilst in the girls events Niki Chatburn finished in seventh place in the girls twelve years 100m breastroke and Lauren Sharp claimed eighth place in the equivalent age group freestyle.
With the North East Region Age Groups Championships on the horizon it was pleasing to see the following swimmers obtaining qualifying times for the meet which is to be held at the new Aquatic Centre in Sunderland in late November. Niki Chatburn, Hannah Beaumont, Jessica Foulds, Lauren Sharp. James Dawson, Josh Zenner,Jamie Brown and Sam O’Donohoe.
Along with a host of personal best times these swims indicate that City can look forward to a successful season.
