Welsh National Age and Youth Championships
Wales National Pool, Swansea 10th-13th April 2009
Thirteen year old James Dawson was City’s only representative at this prestigious meet in Swansea. But his journey was made more than worth while when he came home with a host of personal best times and medals.
Swimming at the bottom end of the boys thirteen/fourteen year’s age group Dawson showed he was a force to be reckoned with medals in the 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley. His time 2.45.74 in the breaststroke event secured him a silver medal and a personal best time of 5.07.93 in the medley claimed a bronze medal.
Fourth place finishes in the 200m medley and 100m breaststroke meant he just missed out on the medals but as he will compete in the same age group next year, the medal prospects in those events is good.
A best time of 2.27.34 in the 200m backstroke gave him a fifth place finish and along with sixth place in the 100m backstroke and tenth and seventh in the 100m and 200m butterfly respectively meant that he made the long journey home with a total of five best times and was more than satisfied with his weekend’s work.
