WEAR VALLEY OPEN MEET - BISHOP AUCKLAND - 15/16TH MAY 2010
Bishop Auckland was the venue for the recent Wear Valley Open Meet and City’s swimmers came home with host of medals and best times.
Fourteen year old Fergus Walden produced some outstanding performances to claim two gold medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke. He also took the silver in the 100m freestyle and bronze in the 200m individual medley.
Brothers Jamie and Matthew Brown made it a family affair when they claimed gold medals in the 200m backstroke and 50m freestyle respectively. Elder brother Jamie then went on to win silver in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke and bronze in the 100m backstroke, and 50m freestyle. Not content with his medal haul he also had a fourth place finish in the 100m freestyle.
Jovana Lugonja powered to victory in the eleven years 50m backstroke and had four other final finishes.
Ten year old Eva Mooney took gold in the 200m freestyle, silver in the 100m butterfly and also had a fifth and six place finish. Her freestyle time was a new north east qualifying time for both the 100m and 200m events.
James Blaby went home with three silver, one bronze and a new north east time in the 200m individual medley. Not to be outshone by her elder brother sister Emma took silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m backstroke, the latter swim being a north east time for both the 100m and 200m events.
Laura Hartley went home with two silver medals in the girls ten years 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke and bronzes in the 50m freestyle and backstroke.
Ella Dyminski, swam a well paced race to come second in the twelve years 100m breaststroke and 50m backstroke and nine year old Rebecca Fuller took home the silver in the girls nine years 200m backstroke.
Thirteen year old Aidan Sheldon responded well to a heavy programme with no less than seven placings. His silver medals came in the 200m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and bronzes in the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke and 100m individual medley which was also a new qualifying time.
Luke Strauss demonstrated consistent form when he placed second in the boy’s eleven years 100m freestyle, third in the 50m butterfly and claimed three more final positions.
Seth Berry and Azura Cairns- Poole claimed a bronze medal each in the 50m backstroke and 200m butterfly respectively.
Other finalists were Laura Mitchell, Hollie Evans, Abigail Shuttleworth, Lucy Ward, Anna Davidson, Gianni Vienza and Jordan Tate.
All swimmers train with Bradford Aquatic Development Programme.
