Andy Pearce - Senior Coach
Lead Coach to National Potential Squad
|
Before moving into coaching I was a competitive swimmer at Leeds. I trained in the top squad for 12 years averaging 10 sessions and around 80,000 metres per week. I was National Age Group Champion at 1500 f/c and won 2 silver medals at Senior National Championships. I was an England and Great Britain Senior International Swimmer from 1986 -1991 and was fortunate to train with and compete against many top International Swimmers. I currently hold the British Record for the Swim Marathon (5000 metres) set in 1991.
For 6 years I was employed as a coach with the City of Leeds Swimming Club. The squad I coached were aged between 10 and 13 years old and they trained to a maximum of 8 sessions a week. Whilst there I produced many Yorkshire and North Eastern Counties champions and National Age Group finalists and medalists. I also coached many swimmers that went on to win Nationals and gain selection for the World Class Start / Potential Programme.
“Remember everything you do in training has a reason and a purpose so be tough, listen to your coach and always have a positive attitude towards training.

I started my swimming career at the age of 9, and joined City of Bradford in it's inaugural year, competing nationally from age 10. At 19 I continued my swimming career at the University of Kentucky, where I gained a swimming scholarship and was coached by 1972 Olympic Gold medallist Gary Conelly. I graduated with a BBA in Marketing in 1998. During this time I competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Trials, became Yorkshire Champion and was a Senior National finalist.
After working with Head US Olympic Coach Mark Schubert at The University of Southern California in the summer of 1998, I went straight into full time coaching with the Lakeside SeaHawks Swim Team in Louisville, KY. During 3 years as Senior coach, I was lucky to work with some fantastic swimmers, including swimmers who went on to win an Olympic Gold medal, World Championship medals, and break American records under current US Team Coach Mike DeBoor. Lakeside were also crowned National Junior Men's Team Champions in 2000. I coached the Kentucky All Star Team in 2001 and was an Assistant Coach at the University of Kentucky in 2002. I also spent 2 years coaching in Sydney, Australia in 2004/05.
