Swim 21 – What’s it all about?
Swim21, I guess we all know the name but what does it actually mean to a member of COB.
Swim 21 is the ASA Club Development model, in other words, it’s a best practice framework for clubs to help them develop both swimmers and the club.
Fundamentally it is a planning tool, based on the principles of Long Term Athlete Development, enabling clubs to help swimmers, coaches, the committee and helpers achieve their full potential. In our case it focuses particularly on the needs of swimmers - striving to provide them with the best possible support and environment.
Swim 21 Accreditation is a 'Quality mark'. It is recognised nationally and regionally for the clubs which are committed to providing safe, effective and high quality services for the benefit of their members.
COB are working steadily towards the attainment of the next stage of Swim 21, this is seen as essential for the right level of support to be provided at each stage of a swimmers development.
Swim 21 Accreditation is available to ASA clubs of all aquatic disciplines and has four levels of attainment:
- •Teaching
- •Skill Development
- •Competitive Development
- •Performance
COB have currently achieved two of the possible four stages and at the moment we are contemplating rising to the next level - the “Competitive Development” level. We will see if we are close enough with the work which is already in place at the moment to realistically make a bid for the next level.
The principle of Swim 21 is to build a strong healthy club and help volunteers and members follow a structure aimed at making things work. The main focus of the project is to build a club with all members working together for a common goal; to be successful at all levels of swimming.
