Standards Details

The minimum standard required is to have completed your Level 10 swimming Award or equivalent or to have been recommended for entry by your Swimming Club Coach. (If you are not sure if you have reached a suitable level, contact the Junior Development Coach, Sarah Fisher. You will have the option of using racing dives from blocks if you have had training in them, otherwise you will be able to start in the water or from the poolside.

This gala is aimed at those just beginning in Competitive Swimming. In order to encourage as many swimmers as possible to enjoy success, those swimmers who are 9 and over and have achieved a Yorkshire Championships Qualifying Time in the last 12 months will not be allowed to enter the stroke event in which they achieved it. (They can enter for any other strokes of course!)

Please Note; there are no Yorkshire qualifying times for 7 & 8 year olds as the minimum age for entry into the Yorkshire Championships is 9 years old. There are no qualifying times for girls aged 10 and over and boys 11 and over for the 100m Individual Medley as at the Yorkshires they compete in this event over 200m only.

Other Information

Suggested Equipment; Standard, close fitting swimwear (no baggy shorts!), goggles, swim hats (especially if you have longer hair), flip flops or poolside shoes, Towel/s, waterproof bag to keep 'outside clothes' dry, a T shirt to wear to keep warm between races.

The winners will be based on the fastest times from the heats. The top swimmer trophies will be awarded on a points system with 6 points for 1st place, 5 for 2nd & so on added up over each of the four strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke & freestyle) but not the Individual Medley as this is not offered to all age groups. In the event of a tie, the number of first places will be counted and so on.

In order to allow swimmers to leave promptly there will be no formal presentation of medals & awards. Winners will be announced as the results are finalised and medals will be available for collection from the medals desk. The results will also be published on the cobsc.co.uk website and in the Telegraph & Argus.

All swimmers will be assessed by the Development Coach for the Bradford Swimming Development training scheme operated for the City of Bradford Swimming Club and where they feel that a swimmer has reached the appropriate standard, they may be invited to a trail session. This is the elite training scheme for swimmers in the area - members have gone on from here to swim at national & international levels before now.
