The first in this year’s series of Rising Stars meets was held at Shipley Pool and as always the swimming clubs in Bradford rose to the challenge
The 7/8 year olds competed over 25m and it was Abigail Gleghorn of Bingley Swimming Club who claimed victories in the freestyle and butterfly with the backstroke going to Olivia Lee of Bradford Dolphin and the breaststroke to Ellie Brett of Keighley Swimming Club.
In the equivalent boys events the honours were shared with Joseph Qureshi of City of Bradford coming out on top in the backstroke and breaststroke and George Acton of Bradford Dolphin winning the freestyle and butterfly.
Four swimmers shared the honours in the girls nine years age group with Olivia Horsefield Of Bingley winning the backstroke, Grace Action of Bradford Dolphin the breaststroke, Natasha Wilson, City of Bradford the freestyle and bringing up the rear Emma Blaby also City of Bradford the butterfly.
Bingley’s Harry Copping came home the victor in the nine years boys backstroke and breaststroke with Dolphin’s Dominic Bland winning the freestyle and butterfly.
100m individual medley events were also in the programme for the ten years and over and Bradford Swimming Club’s Joanna Lugonja showed impressive form in winning the backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. But it was team mate Abigail Shuttleworth who prevented her clean sweep when she finished on top of the rostrum in the butterfly and medley events.
Bingley Swimming Club were dominant in the boys ten years with William Broadbent winning the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and medley and James Lund the butterfly.
Clean sweeps came from Abigail Devanny of Bradford Swimming Club in the girls eleven years and Ella Dyminski of Bingley in the twelve/thirteen years.
In the remaining boys events it was Cameron Walker of Dolphin’s who stormed through in the eleven years backstroke, breaststroke and medley with Bradford’s Jamie Dawson taking the freestyle and City of Bradford’s Luke Strauss the butterfly.
Bringing up the rear were James Blaby, City of Bradford with wins in the twelve/thirteen years backstroke, breaststroke and medley, Dolphin’s Luke Habergam and Jonathan Wright taking the freestyle and butterfly respectively.
