ASA NORTH EAST REGION YOUTH AND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, SUNDERLAND AQUATIC CENTRE, MAY 2nd/3rd 2009
A squad of City’s National Potential squad members who train under the guidance of Leisure Service’s senior coach Andy Pearce travelled to Sunderland to compete in the North East Region Youth and Senior Championships.
Time is now running out for qualification for this years National Championships but Dimitry Kadochnikov added to his tally with a qualifying time of 25.55 in the 50m freestyle event.He also finished in third place in the 800m freestyle and competed in the 100m, 200m and 400m events and 200m individual medley.
Sian Morgan already with a host of qualifying times to her credit had an excellent weekend. Competing in the freestyle events she claimed second place in the youth and open 800m event, third in the 1500m events, third in the youth 200m event and fourth in the open 200m event. She also reached the final in both the youth and open 50m and 100m freestyle.
Having recently gained his first national qualifying time Luke Constantine swam well to finish second in the youth 50m butterfly and third in the open event. He also had personal best times in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
The boy’s youth 400m freestyle team of Ben Balmforth, Luke Constantine, Jamie Brown and Dimitry Kadochnikov came a very creditable seventh in their event in a time of 3.48.07.
Personal best times also came from Lewis Sharp, Kristian Hobson, Dyon Whitley and Ben Balmforth.
Other swimmers competing were newcomer to City’s team Richard Thompson who has recently joined the team having previously swum for City of Leeds along with Hannah Midgley and Lucy Burnside.
