City’s Junior European representative fifteen year old Sian Morgan was in blistering form at the North East Region Short Course Championship held at Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre in Durham.
Morgan once again produced some outstanding performances to earn her, two Welsh Junior records, two Yorkshire Junior records, one North East Junior record and a Welsh Senior record. These swims along with four national qualifying times, three gold, two silver, three bronze medals and two final placings rounded off a superb weekend for the Bradford Grammar School pupil.
Her junior records and gold medals came in the 400m and 800m freestyle with her time of 8.42.33 in the 800m event also being a Welsh senior record. Silver medals came her way in the junior 200m freestyle and open 800m event. Bronze medals followed in the junior 50m and 100m freestyle and the open 200m event. Final placings were in the open 50m freestyle and open 100m event. She was also awarded the second junior and senior swimmers of the meet awards.
Fellow Bradford Grammar School pupil David Brown claimed his first North East title when he powered to victory in the open 50m breaststroke in a best time of 30.02.
Swimming in the fifteen years and under age group Sam O’Donohoe came home with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle in a very creditable best time of 26.06 and also a fourth placed junior and eighth placed senior finish in the 200m individual medley.
National qualifier Luke Constantine swam a life time best to finish in fifth place in the open 100m breaststroke.
Personal best times were earned by, Hannah Midgley in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley, Niki Chatburn, 800m freestyle, Lydia Biddiscombe, 50m freestyle, Jamie Brown, 50m 100m and 200m freestyle and Luke Constantine in the 50m freestyle
