City’s age groups swimmers travelled north to the Sunderland Aquatic Centre to compete in the North East Region BAGCAT Championships.
In a high quality meet medals were hard to come by but thirteen year old Niki Chatburn of Cononley tackled the gruelling 1500m freestyle with determination and came out a gold medal winner in a time of 18.51.97. She also produced personal best times in the 200m and 800m events finishing in ninth place in the latter event.
James Lund swimming as ten year old claimed his first NER gold medal in the 200m breaststroke in time of 3.12.16 and buoyed by his gold medal went on to claim bronze in the 100m breaststroke and personal best times in the 200m backstroke and medley.
James Dawson swam consistently well in his events claiming a silver in the 400m individual medley and bronze medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. He also placed sixth in the 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 200m medley.
Final place finishes went to Ellie Talbot, Hannah Beaumont, Millie Foulds, Megan Lee, Isabel Mawson, Joshua Zenner and Joshua Walker.
Other competing swimmers were Isobel Stirk, Phoebe Acton, Azura Cairns-Poole, Joshua Holdsworth, and Matthew Brown. All swimmers train with Leisure Services Coaching and Training Scheme.
