City’s age groups swimmers made their first appearance at the new Sunderland Aquatic Centre to compete in the North East Region BAGCAT Championship’s.
Following her success at the recent Chase Roebuck meet in Wolverhampton eleven year old Ellie Talbot was City’s only gold medal winner with a win in the 100m freestyle in a personal best time of 1.05.69. She also claimed silver in the 100m backstroke and a final placing in the 200m individual medley.
In a high quality meet medals were hard to come by but thirteen year old James Dawson swam to a silver medal in the 200m breastroke and final placings in 200m and 400m individual medley, 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly.
Riding on the crest of a wave following his recent selections and success at North East level fourteen year old Sam O’Donohoe continued his success with his first NER medal claming silver in the 400m freestyle final placings in the 100m breaststroke, 100m and 200m freestyle,100m and 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Niki Chatburn swimming as a twelve year old claimed her first NER medal in the gruelling 1500m freestyle and also finished in fifth place in the 100m breaststroke and seventh the 200m event and tenth in the 100m backstroke.
Rapidly improving Hannah Beaumont aged ten, swam to a personal best time of 5.51.68 to claim seventh place in the 400m freestyle and Josh Zenner and Lydia Biddiscombe completed the list of swimmers with top ten finishes.
Other competing swimmers were Jessica Foulds and Lauren Sharp. The club had a total of 34 swims which included 22 top ten fishes, and 25 personal best times. All swimmers train with Leisure Services Coaching and Training Scheme
