Reports
Sam- Had his best ever meet at the Nationals. In his 5 events he swum huge pb’s in all of them and swum in his first National finals in 200IM and 400FC. His performances got better and better as the 3 days progressed. His highlight came in the 200IM when he finished 5th in the final in a very strong field.
Sian- Swam very well competing in her 4th Nationals. Swimming a year down for the 1st time she qualified for 4 finals from the 8 events she chose to compete in and Silver in the 800FC was a fantastic result for her. Her time of 9.03.48 is the fastest time by a female born in 1994 in Great Britain this year. She was extremely unfortunate to miss the Bronze in the 400FC by 1 100th of a second in a very gutsy swim. A huge pb on the 50FC on the last day was a very pleasing personal swim for her.
Jenna- Again swimming a year down. Jenna competed well throughout the heats and semis and swum a fast time in the final of the 100 Breast, only just outside her pb. She did herself credit and making the final in its self is a hugely pleasing result for her.
Swimmers, well done and congratulations to all 3 of you on your outstanding performances in Sheffield. I am personally very, very proud of you all and you represented both yourselves and the club with distinction and you deserve all the praise I could possibly give you. Fantastic in all areas!
For the record as a club we had 14 swims, 7 finals and 9 pb’s and the fact that all 3 of you swam in at least 1 final is in its self a great achievement to say the least.
Andy Pearce Senior Coach
The culmination of the swimming year came for City’s National qualifiers when they competed in the National Age and Youth Championships at Sheffield Ponds Forge.
Sam O’Donohoe had his best ever meet at the National Age Group Championships. Qualifying for five events he showed superb improvement and his dedication to training paid off when he reached two finals and swam personal best times in all his events. The highlight came in the 200m individual medley when he claimed a fifth place finish in his first national final. His other final place came in the 400m freestyle when he finished in tenth place. Sam also showed his versatility with personal best times in the 100m backstroke and 100m and 200m freestyle to round off a superb weeks swimming.
Competing in her fourth National Championships Sian Morgan rose to the occasion and featured in four finals out of her eight swims at the Youth Championships. Swimming in the girls fourteen/fifteen years, fourteen year old Sian finished in silver medal position in the 800m freestyle in a personal best time of 9.03.48. This swim gave her fastest time by a fourteen year old female born 1994 in Great Britain this year. Sian narrowly missed a bronze medal by hundredth of a second in the 400m event in a personal best time of 4.24.78. Her other best times were in the 400m individual medley where she finished in sixth place and the 50m freestyle where she finished in thirteenth place.
Sian’s other final place came in the 200m freestyle where a time of 2.07.50 gave her a sixth place finish. Her other events were the 100m and 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley. These swims bode well for next year’s Championships when Sian will swim in the same age group as a fifteen year old.
Also swimming a year down in a double age group sixteen year old Jenna Chatburn reaffirmed her quality as a breaststroke swimmer in the girls sixteen/seventeen years 100m breaststroke. Swimming well through the heats and semi finals she did herself credit and claimed eighth place in the final in a time of 1.16.98.
Andy Pearce Head Coach was delighted with his swimmers who had fourteen swims, nine personal best times and seven final placings.
All swimmers who train with Leisure Services Coaching and Training Scheme are now on a well earned summer break before they return in September to start the new season.
