Flamingoland Trip

There are still some places left on the club’s trip to Flamingo Land on Sunday 26th June. If any swimmer is wanting to go, then please give your name and deposit as soon as possible to Lisa Brown, Sara Beaumont or Jackie Akers.

May Bank Holiday Training Rearrangement.

Please note there will be no AM or PM training for all squads on Monday May 30th.

Tuesday 31st May- AM session at Eccleshill for National Potential Squad only 8.00-10.00 AM. Land training 10.15-10.45 approx.

There will be no PM training at Rhodesway for NP on this day, although the PM session at Rhodesway will still take place as normal for Intermediate and Masters Squads 6.30-8.00 PM.

Training Change

It has become necessary to change the Thursday PM session for Intermediate Squad and Masters due to overcrowding at Eccleshill. With this in mind this session will switch from Eccleshill to Rhodesway on a Tuesday PM.

The last Thursday session will be on 27th January. The first Tuesday session will on 1st February. The session will be 6.30-8.00 PM. Steve Eddison will continue to coach the Tuesday session at Rhodesway.

I hope you will take advantage of this change and the extra water space that will be available.

Named Swimming Hats Order

Orders are now being taken by Cheryl Lund for named hats. The last date for orders will be Sunday 30th January 2011.

It is likely that another order after this date will not be placed until the end of 2011 October/November time dependant on demand.

Training schedule for Christmas and New Year 2010

All training for all squads is as normal up to and including Thursday 23rd December

All AM and PM training will return to normal for all squads on Tuesday 4^th Jan 2011.

Training Change

As you may be aware we are experiencing some problems at Shipley regarding the high water temperatures. This has been an ongoing problem for some months now and is undoubtedly worse on an AM when the cover has been on the pool overnight. This was proved last Friday when the temperature was 32.2 degrees and last Monday it was 32.7 degrees. It goes without saying, these temperatures make it too hot to swim in let alone to implement any competitive swimming training.

I have contacted the manager at Shipley and sent an email to the Principle Facilities Manager and the Senior Technical Services Manager regarding this issue. In the meantime whilst I am awaiting their response I have felt it necessary to move the venue/time of NP and Masters only AM training as from Friday 10th December to Eccleshill at the following times.

• Monday- 5.15-6.55 AM
• Wednesday- 5.30-7.15 AM
• Friday- 5.30-7.15 AM

I am hopeful that these measures will be a short term solution to a problem that needs urgent attention and again, I am hopeful the problem will be addressed and rectified as soon as it possibly can be. I will contact you again with any updates or when the problem has been put right.

2010 Annual General Meeting

Will members please note that the 2010 Annual General Meeting will take place at Eccleshill Pool, Harrogate Road, Bradford BD10 0QE on Thursday 23rd September 2010 commencing promptly at 7.30 pm

Any requests for changes to rules must be received by the Secretary no later than Thursday 26th August  2010

Nomination sheets which have been placed on the noticeboards at Shipley, Rhodesway, Eccleshill and Bradford Grammar School should be returned to the Secretary with any nominations duly filled in no later than Thursday 26th August 2010.

Please bear in mind that the summer break will be coming up soon and these matters need to be addressed before the final day of training.

Named Swim Hats & Tombola Prizes

Just a reminder that Cheryl has a hat order going in on 30th June and if any one wants a named hat then they need to contact her urgently either by phone or at kit@cobsc.co.uk. The cost of the named hats is still £6.50.

She also needs Tombola Prizes for the End of Season Meet. Anything will do! You can either pass them on to her or leave them with the coach and they will get them to her.

Nutrition Clinic

The Club has organised two separate interactive Nutrition workshops for parents and swimmers on Sunday 20th June 2010 from 11am -12pm at Leeds Metropolitan University,  Headingley Campus.

 They will be delivered by the Carnegie Centre for Sports Performance and Wellbeing and will cover:

• The nutritional dilemmas and concerns of swimmers

• Understanding the key issues of eating for health and performance

• How to apply individual requirements around training and competition

• Nutritional aspects of recovery and identifying strategies to achieve optimal recovery

This workshop is open to all PAID members of COBSC and their parents.  Please let Lindsay Morgan (National Potential) or your squad co-ordinator know ASAP if you would like to attend.

Assistant Team Managers Required

As you may be aware the club is running a swimming trip to Jersey again this year. The trip/meet is due to take place from Thursday 21st October 2010 to Monday 25th October 2010

Sara Beaumont has been elected as Team Manager for the meet but we also require ONE MALE ASSISTANT Team Manager and ONE FEMALE ASSISTANT Team Manager.

To qualify for the role as ‘Assistant Team Manager’ you will need to have the following;

• Hold Team Manager Level 2 Status
• Have attended the Child Protection Course
• Be CRB Checked
• (Be First Aid qualified ****** This is preferable not mandatory******)

Volunteer Swimmers Needed

Sarah has asked me to let you know that swimmers from the Winning Edge Squad are needed as subjects to help new swimming coaches who are training for their level 1 qualification at Eccleshill next Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9-11am. It would give you some free extra water time over half term, while helping the clubs.

Could you please let Sarah know if you can help on some or all of the days.

Training Changes

Due to another forecast of heavy snow for the early hours, training for tomorrow morning (Friday) for National and Masters at Shipley is cancelled.

The Intermediate session for tomorrow evening from 4.30-6.30pm at Rhodesway is also cancelled because the car park is inaccessible.

At the moment, it is hoped that the other sessions for tomorrow evening (Friday) will be able to go ahead but it will depend on the weather.

We will try to let you know if there are any further changes.

Request for Prizes & Kit Reminder

Can I remind everyone that we need  tombola prizes urgently for the Christmas Meet. They can be anything at all (except tins of food) - so next time you are at the supermarket - pop something extra in your trolley! Can you let Cheryl Lund or Andy Foulds have them As Soon As Possible please. Ta!.

Cheryl would also like to  let people know that if they require kit as Christmas presents for their children then the last order date for this is the 6th December.

Training Cancellation Reminder

Just a reminder for those swimmers from Junior and Winning Edge who are not competing in the Rising Stars Gala that there will be no training this Sunday (November 22nd)

Training Change for Winning Edge

As you will no doubt be aware we have encountered severe overcrowding problems with regard to the Monday session at Shipley PM for the above mentioned squads. I am delighted to now be in the position to say that the situation has now been resolved and with this in mind the following changes will be implemented to ensure that this over crowding problem is rectified: -

WINNING EDGE SQUAD will now train at Rhodesway Pool on Tuesday’s 6.30-7.30 PM instead of Monday’s at Shipley. The first of these sessions will be on Tuesday 22^nd September. (Squad members should not attend the session at Shipley on Monday 21^st Sept).

Your 1 hour land training session will move to Sunday’s at Shipley after the swimming session from 6.15-7.15 PM. The first of these sessions will take place on Sunday 27^th September.

All 4 lanes will be available to Winning Edge on Tuesday’s, this will mean the squad has more space than previous and of course is a much earlier finish time with the swimmers attending school the following day. The coach for both the Tuesday water session and the land training session on Sunday’s will be Aileen Ibbotson.

INTERMEDIATE & MASTERS SQUADS will now train 7.30-9.00 PM on Tuesday’s to accommodate the above changes to Winning Edge Squad. The first of these sessions at this time will be on 22^nd Sept.
