Training Change for Winning Edge
As you will no doubt be aware we have encountered severe overcrowding problems with regard to the Monday session at Shipley PM for the above mentioned squads. I am delighted to now be in the position to say that the situation has now been resolved and with this in mind the following changes will be implemented to ensure that this over crowding problem is rectified: -
WINNING EDGE SQUAD will now train at Rhodesway Pool on Tuesday’s 6.30-7.30 PM instead of Monday’s at Shipley. The first of these sessions will be on Tuesday 22nd September. (Squad members should not attend the session at Shipley on Monday 21st Sept).
Your 1 hour land training session will move to Sunday’s at Shipley after the swimming session from 6.15-7.15 PM. The first of these sessions will take place on Sunday 27th September.
All 4 lanes will be available to Winning Edge on Tuesday’s, this will mean the squad has more space than previous and of course is a much earlier finish time with the swimmers attending school the following day. The coach for both the Tuesday water session and the land training session on Sunday’s will be Aileen Ibbotson.
INTERMEDIATE & MASTERS SQUADS will now train 7.30-9.00 PM on Tuesday’s to accommodate the above changes to Winning Edge Squad. The first of these sessions at this time will be on 22nd Sept.

Training Change for Winning Edge
Dear Parents
It has been necessary to put measures in place to overcome the issue of overcrowding to the Friday evening Winning Edge session at Shipley.
With this in mind, this session will be moved to Monday’s from 7.45-8.45 PM at Shipley. The last Friday session for W/E squad will be 19th June. The first Mon PM session will be 22nd June. Three lanes will be available to W/E squad on Mondays at the time mentioned which will ease slightly the problem of overcrowding.
I am aware that this new Monday time is a late finish with school in the AM and for this reason this is a temporary day and time and will run until the scheme begins its annual summer break in August.
I am currently working with Development Coach, Sarah Fisher to acquire a new permanent day and time to which this session is more suitable for everyone concerned and we will be looking to implement this in late August, early September.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but I am sure you will agree that the need to change the Friday PM session is of paramount importance for the benefit of the Swimmers.
Yours sincerely, Andy Pearce Senior Coach

The second weekend of the above competition will now take place at The John Charles Centre for Sport Leeds 20th & 21st June. Can I ask that you check with all of your swimmers and any who can not now compete, I be made aware of as soon as possible so that the session lengths can be minimised, those swimmers withdrawing prior to Thusday 18th June will be compensated.
The events will be heat declared winners.
All the best, Ian Proud

Annual General Meeting
Following the change in the Clubs Year End to 31st August, we have a new date for our Annual General Meeting. You should all be receiving notification in the post but for your information it will be on Thursday 28 August at 7pm at Eccleshill Swimming Pool.
This is at the same time as the combined training session for all squads under the Summer Training Schedule so that we hope that everyone who is around will be able to attend. In order to vote you need to be an adult member or the parent/guardian of a junior swimmer nominated as a member on their behalf. Inevitably some people will still be away on holidays etc. If you have any issues that you wish to raise, please write to the club secretary or brief one of the committee members on your behalf.
We will also be looking for volunteers for the posts within the club. As the deadline for formal nominations has now passed, the Acting Chair has said that he will be accepting nominations from the floor but that it would be helpful if we could have indications of interest in advance – especially if you will not be able to attend the meeting.
Click here to download a list of the posts within the Club, some of which require an active commitment but many of which would only require occasional input.
In the same way that the End of Season Meet was successful because we had a good team of Volunteers working together, if everyone agrees to help the club in some way or other we can really begin to take things forward.
Please let our chairman know if you are interested in filling one of these posts or if you would like to help in some other way, the amount of commitment and the type of skills that you can offer.

(If there is sufficient demand we may be able to offer an alternative date)
Team Manager Training (level 1) - proposed date 24th September

End of Season Meet
A really huge Thank You to everyone who helped out at the End of Season Meet and who once again helped us to make it a real success – despite the heat! It is unfair to pick out individuals as everyone’s contribution, however small is valuable but I must particularly mention Cheryl Lund and her front of house team who performed fundraising wonders, Lisa Brown and her catering team who put on a magnificent spread, Mike Dawson and his officials who ran everything like clockwork and John Preston for being brave (or mad!) enough to take on the running of this event. This will have tremendous benefits for everyone in the Club over the coming year so a big pat on the back for everyone who took part!

I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help so far - though we could always do with a few more! If you have not volunteered/ been volunteered yet, please speak to Sandy Fordham as soon as possible.
Just a reminder - can everyone please wear their blue volunteer T shirts on the day so that we are identifiable to swimmers, visitors etc. If you do not have one or need a new one for some reason, please speak to Cheryl Lund as soon as possible.

While the proposed pool closures in Bradford are not due to directly affect any of our training venues, they could have important knock on consequences in terms of pool availability and for the local clubs that many of our swimmers belong to and come from. Talent Development Selections
Sam O’Donohoe & James Dawson have been selected for the new England Talent Development programme which aims to identify and develop talented swimmers.
They will be eligible for 3 one day training camps, the first of which takes place this weekend at the new 50m pool at Sunderland and will focus on developing the skills and attributes that are required to provide “more complete” swimmers and will provide a structured programme that will dovetail into the British Swimming World Class programme.
Well done to both of them!

New Swimming Timetable
A revised session timetable will come into effect from Monday 14th April 2008.
These changes directly affect Youth Development, National Potential, Junior Development and Rising Stars Squads.
The implementation of these changes is to make the Training Scheme more cost effective and also to alleviate the problem of staff cover which recently has been a major problem.
The Training fees are also being revised in line with Council recommendations and will come into effect with effect from May 1st 2008
These changes are necessary for the long term improvement and continuity of the training scheme, but we apologise for any inconvenience these may cause you. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call me on 01274 438791

Club ASA Membership
Some of you may have seen that the club was recently listed as suspended by the ASA for non payment of it’s ASA fees.
This was a mistake - the club did pay in good time but there was an admin error that meant that it went to the wrong ASA account. The issue has been resolved and the club is still a full member of the ASA.

Welsh Nationals Results
James and Lorna Dawson had a successful visit to the Welsh National Championships from 20th to 25th March at the Swansea University long course pool.
James did really well to secure six National titles with gold in the 200m breaststroke (2.52.73), 100m fly(1.09.97), 200m individual medley (2.34.36), 100m breaststroke (1.21.54), 200m backstroke (2.33.99) and 200m fly(2.39.06).
He also gained silver in the 100m back (1.13.49) and 200m free (2.21.34) plus bronze in the 100m free 1.05.84).
He managed to win three finals on the first evening which was a tough start and then continued to improve with pb’s in all his 9 events. Martin Woodruff the Welsh National coach certainly noticed his performances and said he would be keeping an eye on his progress.
Lorna gained a silver and two bronze medals in her last Welsh Youth Nationals. Her times were 2.44.40 in the 200m individual medley (silver ),1.22.23 in the 100m breaststroke (bronze) and 2.56.72 in the 200m breaststroke (bronze)

FINA World Swimming Championships 2008 (25m)
The club has secured a block of top value tickets for the last day – Sunday 13th April 2008 - including the 09.00 Heats session, the 15.00 Finals session and at 17.30 (approx), the Closing Ceremony at the Manchester Evening News Arena. These were offered to club members last year and were all sold but we do now have a few left from members who have since left the club. These will be available on a first come first served basis.
We will be travelling by coach, departing from Shipley Pool car park at 07.00 and returning to there at 20.00 (approx). The club is subsidising the cost of this visit and so the price will be just £35.00 each to include return coach travel and seats with a face value of £42.00. (For those of you who have already paid a deposit of £20.00, this means that a balance of £15.00 is now due).
The Team manager for this trip is Kath Bonson.
To reserve your tickets contact me on 07771 682811 or by e-mail. If you have already booked your tickets, could you please let me have the balance payments as soon as possible.
