The second in this year’s series of Rising Stars meets was held at Shipley Pool where the local swimming clubs in the area competed against each other for top honours.
The 7/8 year olds competed over 25m and it was Olivia Lee of Bradford Dolphins who clinched two victories in the backstroke and butterfly with Ruth Hollis of Bingley Swimming Club equalling her total, winning the breaststroke and freestyle events.
In the equivalent boys events the honours went to Dolphins George Acton in the butterfly and freestyle, with Nathan Strauss, City of Bradford taking the backstroke and Alexander Devanny, Bradford Swimming Club the breaststroke.
Dominic Bland, Dolphins produced some outstanding performances to claim a clean sweep in the nine year old boy’s events and club mate Grace Acton won the equivalent girls backstroke and freestyle.
Bingley claimed the remaining two events with Olivia Horsfield winning the breaststroke and Neve Godfrey- Clarke the butterfly.
Ten year old Emma Blaby, City of Bradford powered to victory in her age group events but was prevented a clean sweep by Natasha Wilson who claimed a gold in the breaststroke.
The ten years and above age groups included an individual medley event and Tobi Adeniji of Dolphins led the charge to win the ten years boys event He also won the back and free with Matthew Griffiths also of Dolphins taking the breaststroke.
City of Bradford’s Luke Strauss demonstrated consistent form to win four of the eleven year old boy’s events but William Broadbent of Bingley took the backstroke to prevent his clean sweep.
Jovana Lugonja competing for Bradford Swimming Club led the charge in the girls eleven year age group when she won the butterfly, freestyle and medley events. Ellie Coones, City of Bradford taking the backstroke and Bingley’s Hollie Evans the breaststroke
Bringing up the rear in the twelve/thirteen years Age Group City’s Aidan Sheldon looked confident in winning the breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and medley. Luke Habergam, Dolphins took the freestyle and Ben Higgins, Bradford Swimming Club City of Bradford the backstroke.
Bradford’s Laura Mitchell hit the medal winning trail in the girls backstroke and freestyle. Fellow Bradford swimmers Katie Burnside and Abigail Devanny claimed the butterfly and medley events respectively and Dolphins Grace Hobson took the breaststroke.
