The last weekend of competition before the Christmas break saw City’s swimmers test the water’s of the new 50m pool at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.
Bradford were not on their own in testing their racing speed at this new facility. Teams from Loughborough University, Nova Centurion, Bolton Metro and Warrington Warriors to name but a few joined City’s swimmers over the weekend meet.
With opposition of that nature medals were few and far between and it was Sian Morgan who provided the club’s only medals. She rose to the occasion in the girls 13yrs 200m butterfly to come with gold in a time of 2.24.46 and claimed silver in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.
Twelve year old James Dawson of Skipton had an excellent weekend and showed his versatility by finishing in fourth place in the 100m backstroke and 200m butterfly and in fifth place in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
Rapidly improving Sam O’Donohoe made his mark at the meet with a fourth place finish in the boys thirteen years 200m freestyle, sixth place in the 200m backstroke and eighth place finishes in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.
Ilkley’s Ben Balmforth still recovering from injury was pleased with his fifth place finish in the boys fourteen years 100m butterfly and fellow Bradford Grammar School pupil David Brown claimed two final placings in his specialist breaststroke events.
Last but by no means least was thirteen year old Isaac Ehdieb with final finishes in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 200m freestyle.
