Outline for Bradford Council’s Sport & Leisure Services Swimming Training Scheme
- On the following pages are the entry and exit criteria for the squads within the scheme which follow the A.S.A. long-term athlete development plan.
- The competitive outlet of the scheme is the City Of Bradford Swimming Club and the emphasis of both the scheme and the club is focussed firmly on competitive development with the goal that every swimmer be given the opportunity of achieving the highest possible level within the sport and achieving their full potential.
- Swimmers within the scheme will compete on a basis that is advised and expected by the schemes coaches under the supervision of the Senior Coach. Whilst representing the City Of Bradford S.C. swimmers will only attend competitions that are endorsed by the club (although swimmers that compete in competitions for their local clubs are welcome to do so). These meets will be selected by the Senior Coach and approved by the club’s committee.
- It must be remembered that the schemes coaches are employed by the Councils Sport & Leisure Service and not by the City Of Bradford Swimming Club.
- It also lists changes to the current squads within the scheme.
The main issues to be addressed by the squad structures are: -
- To improve the quality of the service to its customers.
- To improve the schemes cost effectiveness and make maximum use of time and available pool space.
- To ensure participants are placed within the correct squads with regard to their ability and age and ambitions.
- To make the criteria clear to all swimmers, parents and outside agencies.
- To give the schemes participants the best and fairest possible chance of progression and success.
Placing the swimmers in the correct squad is of paramount importance. This will be determined by ability, age and ambition. Anyone not wishing to take up their place in the squad they will be invited to train in will forfeit their place within the scheme and will be passed to one of the local clubs of their choice for their future development.
Injured swimmers or swimmers returning to training after injury will not be considered to move squads if they fail to meet that particular squad criteria until they have recovered from injury. If a swimmer does not seek medical or physio treatment for an injury it will be the decision of the squad coach as to whether that swimmer will train or not.
Lanes will not be given up for swimmers to do specific work if they suffer from ‘occasional or selected injuries’.
