The third in this year’s series of Rising Stars meets was held at Shipley Pool where the local swimming clubs in the area competed against each other for top honours.
The 7/8 year olds competed over 25m and it was City of Bradford’s Nathan Strauss who struck gold in the backstroke and butterfly with the breaststroke going to Alexander Devanny of Bradford Swimming Club and the freestyle to Benjamin Adeniji of Bradford Dolphin.
In the equivalent girls events the honours were shared between Dolphin’s Olivia Lee who took the backstroke, Bingley’s Ruth Hollis, breaststroke and freestyle and Bradford’s. Hannah Shuttleworth who struck gold in the butterfly.
Dolphin swimmers took the plaudits in the boys nine years age group when George Acton won the backstroke and breaststroke and Dominic Bland the butterfly. They were prevented a clean sweep by Bingley’s Seth Berry who took the freestyle.
The tables were turned in the equivalent girls events when Bingley’s Ruth Fuller took the freestyle and butterfly and Abigail Gleghorn the backstroke. Bradford’s Elysia Wardle claimed the breaststroke.
The ten years and above age groups included an individual medley event and Tobi Adeniji of Dolphins led the charge to win the ten years boys event. He also won the backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.
The girls ten years medley was won by Bingley’s Natasha Wilson with Dolphin’s Melissa Bland the backstroke, City of Bradford’s Siobhan Akers and Emma Balby the freestyle and butterfly respectively.
A clean sweep of his entered events went to William Broadbent of Bingley in the boys eleven years age group.
This was followed by City’s Ellie Coones winning the girls backstroke, Bradford’s Megan Anderton the breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly. Club mate Abigail Shuttleworth took the medley.
Bringing up the rear in the twelve/thirteen years age group Bradford swimmer Elliott Phillips took home the backstroke and freestyle and team mate James Dawson the breaststroke. City’s Luke Strauss claimed gold in the butterfly and medley
But in the eleven year girls it was Bradford Swimming Club’s Abigail Devanny who stole the show with a clean sweep of all four strokes along with the medley.
