3 GOLD, 4 SILVER, 2 BRONZE
11 Open Finalists – Luke 3, David 2, Siān 4, Hannah 1, Joanna 1
This was not an easy meet to swim fast in. For most it was the first long course meet of the season after many months away from a 50m pool. For others it came the week after the Harrogate meet and this was a major factor in our swims at Leeds. I am sure tiredness played a part in the performances but we must deal with this and be prepared to handle swimming times that are away from our PBs. However this meet will improve race fitness for the long course season ahead and I am confident we have faster times within us in the near future.
On the positive side, many congratulations to Sian, David and Sam on their medals and to Sian on gaining a new QT on 50 free for the British Championships in March and to David on his National QT on 50 Breast for the National Championships in August.

Podium places were hard to come by at this year’s Yorkshire Senior/Junior Championships held at John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds.
Sian Morgan continued her preparation for possible Commonwealth Games selection with some fine swims. Freestyle specialist Morgan clinched first junior and second senior position in the 50m event in a new British Championship qualifying and personal best time of 27.68. She then went on to win the 200m junior title with a time of 2.05.74. The time also giving her third place senior and a British Championship qualifying time. The longer 1500m event saw her finish in time of 17.17.14. The swim gave her new National Youth qualifying times at the 800m mark and also in the 1500m at the finish line. Her 800m time also added to her collection of British Championships qualifying times and the overall result gave her second place senior and junior in the event.
Fresh from his success at the recent Burns Meet it was sixteen year old David Brown who captured the limelight when he topped the podium in the senior 50m breaststroke in a new National Youth qualifying time and personal best time of 30.75. His time of 1.10.44 In the 100m Breaststroke also qualified him for the championships later this year and earned him a fourth place finish.
Sam O’Donohoe claimed two personal best times in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke to secure him third and second places junior respectively. He also had three further top ten places in the 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
Fourteen year old Nicole Fordham had an excellent meet when she swam to three personal best times in her age group 50m and 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Hannah Midgley and Joanna Gledhill were City’s only other finalists, with Midgley coming tenth in the senior 400m individual medley and Gledhill fifth in the junior 100m backstroke and ninth in the equivalent senior event.
