The various forms of swimming have always been close to the hearts of Bradfordians mainly as a result of the availability of vast amounts of indoor water space put at their disposal from the days of Alderman Trotter. Competitive amateur swimming has been in existence for many, many years, with Bradford Dolphins Swimming Club being formed in 1888 and the Bradford & District Swimming Association formed in 1902.
Founded in 1981, the City of Bradford swimming club was set up to encourage the sport of swimming from early development right through to competitive national level. The aim then was, and still is, to provide opportunities to all the swimmers in the club to realise their potential. This is achieved by providing competitions at all levels, not only in Yorkshire and the North East but also nationally and internationally.
City of Bradford swimming club has been associated with the City of Bradford Metropolitan Council training and coaching scheme since it's launch in 1981. The scheme provides professionally qualified coaches, with Andy Pearce as Senior Coach.
City of Bradford swimming club currently has over 170 swimming members of varied ability between the ages of 7 and 70! They compete in a range of competitions and have represented Yorkshire, England and Great Britain.
The club also has some 30 associate members, some of which form the club committee which runs the operational side of the club, including the financial affairs and the social side of the club.
