The ever popular Sheffield Ponds Forge was the venue for the Derventio Excel 50m Open Meet and City’s swimmers rose to the occasion.
Sian Morgan’s national experience at Ponds Forge showed when she claimed gold in the girls fourteen years 50m butterfly, 50m and 200m freestyle and 200m medley. These swims along with personal best times in the 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle and second place finishes in the 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle earned the top girl award in the 14 years age group.
National qualifier Sam O’Donohoe showed his versatility with a gold medal in the fourteen years 200m backstroke, bronze in the 100m freestyle. He followed this up with final placings in the 100m backstroke, 200m and 400m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.
Sixteen year Jenna Chatburn showed her strength in the breaststroke events with second and third places respectively in the 100m and 50m events. Younger sister Niki finished in seventh place in the 50m breaststroke and eighth in the 100m event.
Rapidly improving Hannah Beaumont aged ten claimed three personal best times and a silver medal in the 50m backstroke. Her other best times came in the 100m backstroke and freestyle. She also claimed sixth place in the 200m backstroke and seventh in the 200m freestyle.
Long distance specialist Hannah Midgley claimed her place on the rostrum with a bronze medal in the fifteen years age group 400m freestyle. She also had a best time in the 200m breaststroke and final placings in the 200m and 400m medley.
Following his excellent weekend at the Sheffield Premier Meet recently, sixteen year old Luke Constantine secured his first ever National Qualifying time in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2.14.89 to finish in fourth place. Swimming in the sixteen plus age group he also swam to personal best times in the 100m and 400m freestyle events.
Other top ten finishers were thirteen year old Lydia Biddiscombe, 100m and 200m backstroke and Dyon Whitley sixteen and over 200m breaststroke.
City now have four national qualifiers with a total of twenty swims between them.
