Darlington Open Meet

Dolphin Centre Darlington - October 4/5th 2008

City of Bradford swimmers started off the new swimming year in fine style, testing their racing fitness at both Leeds and Darlington and bringing home a host of medals.

A small squad of experienced swimmers travelled north to Darlington to compete in the Darlington Open Meet. This well established meet attracted swimmers from far and wide including Loughborough University so competition was fierce.

Fresh from his success at this years National Age Group Championship it was thirteen year old Sam O’Donohoe who led the way with a win in the boys 12/13 years 100m backstroke. He followed this up with silver in the 200m individual medley and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

The following day Sam joined other talented North East Region swimmers at the Age Group Talent Camp which was held at Sunderland. His selection followed his success at the National Age Group Championships early this year.

National medallist Sian Morgan swimming in the girls 14/15 years age group came home with a bronze in the 200m individual medley and final placings in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Matthew Brown shone through in the boys 10/11 years 100m backstroke to claim fourth place whilst elder brother Jamie claimed eighth place in the boys14/15 years 100m freestyle.

Bringing up the rear in the medal stakes were David Brown with eighth place finishes in the boys 14/15 years 100m backstroke and breaststroke and Luke Constantine who finished in tenth place in the Open 100m breaststroke.
