Well done to our small group of swimmers that competed in Sheffield. Many congratulations go to Siān Morgan on gaining her 400 IM and 800 Free National Youth qualifying times. Siān has now achieved a clean sweep of all 14 National times for this August for the first time ever in a single season. A fantastic achievement!
Congratulations also to Sam O’ Donohoe on gaining his 200 Back National Youth QT. He was also very unlucky to miss his 100 Back QT BY 1 100TH of a second.
On the whole, a satisfying meet for COB.
Andy Pearce, Senior Coach, City of Bradford Swimming Club
A squad of five City swimmers travelled to Sheffield to compete at the City of Sheffield No Frills Meet. Rostrum places were hard to come by and Commonwealth hopeful Sian Morgan was the only swimmer to return home with a medal from this high class meet.
Her medals came in the Open 200m freestyle where her time of 2.04.79 secured her a gold medal. Her time of 5.00.32 in the 400m individual medal not only placed her second but also gave her a new national youth qualifying time. Both the 100m and 800m freestyle gave her final placings of fifth and 4th respectively but her time of 9.05.70 in the longer event was most pleasing as this also gave her a new national time. She also placed ninth in the 100m breaststroke in a new national long course time of 1.17.53. These swims mean that Morgan now has a clean sweep of fourteen national times for this summer’s National Youth Championships for the first time in a single season which is no mean feat!
With Nationals fast approaching junior talent Sam O’Donohoe was relieved to get his 200m backstroke national youth time under his belt but just missed out on the 100m time by 100th of a second! His 200m time placed him in sixth place and his time of 1.04.06 in the 100m swim was a personal best time.
Other swimmers competing were Jessica Foulds and Niki Chatburn both swimming in the 14/15 years age group and James Dawson in the 15/16 year old boys events.
Head Coach Andy Pearce who coaches all the swimmers under the banner of Bradford Aquatic Development Programme was pleased with the swims which are ideal preparation for this summer’s major championships.
Christine McCabe, City of Bradford Swimming Club.
