Licenced Open Meets are entered via the City of Bradford Swimming Club - indeed that is one of the reasons the club was founded!

Different Meets are aimed at different levels of swimmers; all of them will have selection criteria, usually based on swimming times and on the swimmers age on the day. They cover a wide range of standards and are organised by clubs throughout the country. At the top level meets (Level 1) the qualifying times can be as fast as for those at the North Easterns or above - for others (such as B grade meets) you might not be allowed to be faster than a certain time.

The meets we choose to attend are carefully selected to suit the needs of our swimmers and to prepare them for the next level in their swimming development. Meet information is circulated to swimmers via the coaches who can offer advice on which meets and events you should enter.

Attending these Open Meets is aimed at allowing you to achieve the Qualifying Times needed to compete in a series of Target Meets. Each of these target levels that you reach is a recognition of the hard work and effort that you have put into your training - getting the times and competing at these meets is something to be really proud of!

Meet Criteria for Squads

It is important that both swimmers and parents remember that the City Of Bradford Swimming Club is the competitive outlet of the City of Bradford Council's Swimming Training Scheme and that one of the Scheme's major focuses is firmly on the competitive development of its members.

It is stated in the new criteria for all squads within the scheme that it is a requirement that the scheme's members should compete on a basis that reflects the wishes of the scheme and its coaches.

The following guidelines on competing must be adhered to by all squad members:

National Potential

A minimum of 6 meets per year

Intermediate Squad (YD/A1)

A minimum of 5 meets per year

Junior Development

A minimum of 8 meets per year

Winning Edge

To compete when and if qualifying times are achieved

Masters Swimmers

should compete when and if the opportunity arises either in a pool competition or Open Water events

These figures are based on the number of meets where swimmers are representing the City Of Bradford Swimming Club and not on those where they are competing for their local clubs.

Andy Pearce, Senior Coach.
