City of Bradford Swimming Club celebrated the twenty fifth anniversary of their Christmas Open meet in style with and a host of medals, finalists and personal best times.
Backed by a wealth of volunteers and officials from all over the county the meet which attracted clubs from all over the north of England ran like clockwork and produced some excellent swims and a club record.
For the second year in succession the club included a knockout skinz event along with teams which made for an exciting finish to each of the four sessions.
Once again it was national medallist Sain Morgan who stole the headlines with no less than eight gold medals. These medals came in the Girls 13yrs 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke and butterfly. The skinz events proved popular with both swimmers and spectators and produced gold medals for Sian in the junior girl’s individual medley and freestyle events.
Thirteen year old Isaac Ehdieb swam to a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke and also claimed silver in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.
Ben Balmforth was rewarded for his perseverance and recovery from injury with gold in the boys fourteen years 50m breaststroke, silver in the 50m butterfly and a bronze in the 100m butterfly and junior freestyle skinz
Ten year old Niki Chatburn rose to the occasion in the 100m breaststroke claiming gold whilst older sister Jenna broke a long standing club record in the open 50m breaststroke with a silver.
Thirteen year old Sam O’Donohoe put in some good all round performances to finish in gold medal position in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
In the boys fourteen years age group David Brown showed good early season form in the 50m breast to claim silver and George Mack claimed silvers this in the longer 100m and 200m event.
The final individual medal of the weekend came form Lucy Burnside in the Ladies open 50m Butterfly.
Other finalists were Ashleigh Nichols, Jessica Foulds,Hannah Midgley, Sian Freeman, Lorna Dawson, Megan Bowes Ayres, Michael Bonson, Luke Constantine, and Jamie Brown.
The swimmers who all train with Sport and Leisure Service coaching and training scheme pulled out all the stops in the team events with no less than three gold’s, one silver , three bronze and five final placings.
