For the second successive year Shipley Pool was the setting for a world record in the S8 disability class when Richard Howard of City of Salford smashed the world record in the Open 200m butterfly event. His entry time of 2.32.37 was last year’s record time and in gaining the record he posted a time of 2.19.15 which subject to ratification is a new world record.
City’s swimmers did not disappoint in their home pool and once again it was fourteen year old Sam O’Donohoe who stole the limelight. His gold medal swims came in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and breaststroke and 200m freestyle and individual medley. e also palces second in thr 50m breatstopek and third in the 100m freestyle.His second place in the men’s knockout individual medley skinz events was also a highlight of the meet. O’Donohoe also finished in second place in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 100m freestyle
Eleven year Ellie Talbot continued to show vast improvement when she placed second in the 100m freestyle and third in the 100m backstroke.
Sian Morgan placed second in the fourteen years and over 50m breaststroke and 200m individual medley and also had top six places in the 50m and 100m backstroke. The exciting women’s medley skinz event saw Morgan finish in fourth place. Morgan attended a British Swimming 2012 target squad camp on the second day of the meet and so was unable to compete in her favoured events.
Thirteen year old year Lydia Biddiscombe rounded off an excellent season with two bronze medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke and Lauren Sharp swimming as a twelve year old was third in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 100m freestyle.
Luke Constantine was City’s remaining medallist; he won bronze in the open 50m breaststroke. He also placed fourth in the 50m butterfly and backstroke, fifth in his 100m backstroke and sixth in the 100m butterfly.
Jamie Brown fourteen, showed his versatility in placing fourth in the 100m freestyle, fifth in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 100m backstroke. Josh Zenner aged thirteen also claimed a fourth pace finish in the 100m butterfly.
Fifth place finishes went to Jessica Foulds in the 100m freestyle, James Dawson, 50m breaststroke, Ben Balmforth, 50m Butterfly and David Brown, 50m breaststroke.
Bringing up the rear were Nicole Fordham and Dyon Whitley with sixth place finishes in the thirteen years 50m butterfly and open 200m breaststroke respectively.
