‘This squad comprises of a real mixture of swimmers including both Junior and Masters swimmers. It has been set up to incorporate those Junior swimmers who cannot commit to the amount of sessions required within National Potential Squad and Youth Development Squad and also to work with the Masters Squad and build on that. Membership is by invitation or coach selection.

There are over thirteen hours of water time available to the squad with a two hours of land training sessions focusing on the core body and use of weights.

The amount of training required within this squad is optional depending on what you are hoping to achieve. Sessions are usually planned as two separate programmes depending on training abilities. They normally separate into:

Session distances can vary between 3,500 and 6000 metres depending on the ability of the swimmer. The main emphasis of the work tends to be on endurance, with more sprint based sessions becoming involved nearer to the date of an event for the Masters swimmers. Generally sessions are based on 75% free / first stroke based work, with 25% Individual Medley based work.

For water based sessions it is advised that you bring the following:-

  • swim suit
  • 2 x goggles (1 spare)
  • pull buoy
  • kick board
  • short fins (ie. zoomers)
  • drinks bottle (minimum 1.5 litres)
  • training hat (optional)

For land based sessions you will need trainers, comfortable clothes and a drinks bottle.

Over the past year the Masters have won, gained medals and set British records at the Yorkshire Championships, the North Eastern Counties Championships and at the Nationals. The juniors have reached the Yorkshire and North Eastern Counties Championships.
