Competition notes
This is our list of competitions/meets for the opening 4 months of the 2009/10 season. These meets have been selected very carefully with the swimmers development and success at the forefront of the meet selections. As it is the start of the season, it is very important that the swimmers concentrate on short course competition until after Christmas/New Year. The long course season begins after this and this is when the swimmers are ready to compete long course and not before. A major reason for this is the summer break and just as swimmers must be eased back into training, they must also be eased back into competing.
It is even more important that swimmers DO NOT over compete especially at the early stages of any season. These meets have been selected to ensure this does not happen. One aspect that concerns me greatly is that swimmers have in the past competed on 2 consecutive weekends. This increases tiredness over this period and will greatly affect the training performance. The preparation for target meets (such as the Winter Yorkshires and NERs) is of paramount importance and this preparation is as good as ruined if swimmers over compete and under train in the build up to these target meets. This applies to swimmers of all ages.
Thank you for your understanding.
Andy Pearce, Senior Coach.
