Shipley Pool was the venue for the second in the series of Telegraph & Argus sponsored Rising Stars Meets. The Meet is organised by City of Bradford Swimming Club in conjunction with Leisure Services Swimming Development and invites swimmers from local clubs to compete against each other.
The seven/eight year olds competed over 25m and it was Seth Berry of Keighley and Dominic Bland of Bradford Dolphin who shared the honours. Berry wining the backstroke and freestyle and Bland the breaststroke and butterfly
In the girl’s events Casey Stirk of Bingley claimed two golds in the backstroke and freestyle with Grace Action of Bradford Dolphin winning the breaststroke and Neve Godfrey-Clark of City of Bradford claming the butterfly.
Tobi Adeniji of Dolphin won the backstroke and breastroke in the boys nine years with Melissa Bland and Eva Mooney also of Dolphin sharing the honours in the girl’s events
100m individual medley events were included for the ten years and over and it was Luke Strauss who won the medley event along with the backstroke and butterfly in the ten years age group. Alex Grimbaldstone of Keighley won the breaststroke and freestyle.
The equivalent girl’s events saw City of Bradford’s Ellie Coones win the medley, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly with her clean sweep being prevented by Holly Evans also swimming for City winning in the breaststroke. Coones swims qualified her to win the Top girl swimmer of the meet.
The individual stroke honours were shared in the boys eleven years with Ben Higgins of Bradford Swimming Club winning the backstroke and breaststroke and Jonathan Wright of Dolphin the freestyle and butterfly However it was Higgins who sealed the age group with his win in the medley event.
Leah Chitson had top honours in the girls eleven years with wins in the freestyle, butterfly and medley. Bradford Swimming Club’s Katie Burnside won the breaststroke and Phoebe Acton of Dolphin the backstroke.
The final age group twelve/thirteen years saw two Dolphin swimmers battling it out for honours. Luke Habergham came though with wins in the backstroke, breastroke and freestyle with Matthew Brown coming through in the butterfly and medley. However Luke’s swims secured him the top boy swimmer of the Meet.
The honours in the final age group the girls 12/13 years went four ways with Bradford Swimming Club swimmers Lucy Rhodes and Nicola Hayes winning the backstroke and butterfly respectively and Dolphin swimmers Grace Hobson and Marie Collier breaststroke and freestyle .Collier rounded off the day by also winning the medley.
