The first of this years Rising Stars Meets was held at Shipley Pool and produced some excellent results
The 8 year olds competed over 25m and in the girl’s events Hannah Shuttleworth, Bradford Swimming Club produced the first clean sweep of the night with wins in all four strokes.
In the equivalent boys events the honours went to Kyle Welsh of Bingley Swimming Club in the backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle but Dalton Clapham of Bradford prevented his clean sweep with a first place finish in the butterfly.
The girls nine years age group honours were shared between Holly Bairstow, Bradford Dolphin who took the backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke, Ellen Kennedy, Ilkley who placed first in the butterfly and Charlotte Whiteoak who clinched the individual medley.
In the boys nine years Andrew Mettrick, Bingley powered to victory in the backstroke and medley, Nathan Strauss, City of Bradford took the breaststroke and butterfly and Oliver Wain also Bingley the freestyle.
Ten year old Grace Acton, Dolphin came though in the ten year old backstroke, freestyle and medley with Roisin Duffy, Bradford triumphing in the breaststroke and Ilkley’s Frankie Woodman in the butterfly.
The second clean sweep of the night went to Dolphin’s Dominic Bland in the ten year age group with victories in all four strokes and the medley event.
In the girls eleven years age group Bradford’s Maria Campean took the plaudits in winning all but the backstroke which went to City of Bradford’s Siobhan Akers. The equivalent boy’s events saw Alexander Medd of Bingley take a richly deserved clean sweep.
Bradford’s Tom Shepherd followed suit in the boys twelve years and in the girls events club mate Megan Jade Anderton was prevented a clean sweep by Bingley’s Bethany Meer who took the breaststroke.
Bringing up the rear in the thirteen years age group were Chloe Whitlock, Bingley who took the backstroke, butterfly and medley, Lauren Ascough, Bradford Dolphin the breaststroke and Stephanie Brown, Bradford the freestyle.
Dolphins also took the spoils in the boy’s events with Cameron Walker coming through in the backstroke and medley, and James Habergam the butterfly. The final medals went to Jamie Dawson of Bradford in the breaststroke and freestyle.
All swimmers train with Leisure Services Aquatic Competition programme at various venues in the city.
