ASA NORTHERN AREA ZONAL MEET

PONDS FORGE SHEFFIELD

JANUARY 28/29th 2012

Following on from the success of last year’s Zonal Meet the ASA repeated the event, giving additional long course competition opportunities to swimmers. The North East and North West Regions competed in Sheffield in the Northern Zonal Meet and eleven City of Bradford swimmers qualified for this high level meet.

The weekend produced eleven finalists, fourteen long course best times, five ASA National times, six National Youth times and one British Championships/Olympic Trials time.

The ASA National, Youth and Olympic Trials times all went to Sian Morgan who will now compete with the cream of British swimmers at the first competition held at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre at Stratford in March.

Morgan had already qualified for the 200m and 400m freestyle and knocked four and half seconds off her 400m Individual medley time at the Zonal meet to add the event to her tally.

She placed fourth in the 400m freestyle and 200m medley, eighth in the 100m freestyle and also competed in the 400m medley, 200, freestyle and 50m freestyle

Sixteen year old James Dawson placed fourth in the 100m breaststroke and seventh in the longer 200m breaststroke.

Sam O’Donohoe tested his long course fitness and finished seventh in the seventeen years and over 200m backstroke and eight in the shorter 100m event.

Both swimming in the fourteen years and under events Jasmine Hanson came a very creditable seventh in the 200m breaststroke in a  time of 2.56.07 and Ellie Talbot sprinted to a tenth place finish in the 50m freestyle in a time of 29.02.

Other qualifiers for the meet who all train with Leisure Services Aquatic Competition Programme were Abigail Shuttleworth, Isabel Stirk, Josh Holdsworth, Josh Walker, Josh Zenner and Matthew Brown.
