YORKSHIRE SWIMMING ASSOCIATION WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS
PONDS FORGE SHEFFIELD - OCTOBER 8th/9th 2011
COACHES REPORT
As our first meet of the season this is always a tester as to how we have started with our training programme, and what areas need to be worked on. I was astounded by some of our performances this weekend as they were awesome, especially after the majority had done such good personal bests at the End of Season Meet in July. We had the highest percentage of personal bests achieved at this meet ever, beating the previous Winter Yorkshires by a fair chunk.
We gained 4 more top ten positions and 3 extra medals to last year’s event which is definitely telling us that we are moving in the right direction.
Our medallists in this years event were, Myles Stirk with 3 golds, Sian Morgan with a gold, 2 silvers and a bronze, Matthew Brown a silver and a bronze and Jasmine Hanson with a bronze. Our top tens included George Acton, Ryan Allen, David Brown, Aidan Sheldon, Jimmy Lund, Elle Pickett, Abigail Shuttleworth, Izzy Mawson and Izzy Stirk.
For some of these it was their first ever top ten at Yorkshires, which is a great achievement as there was some exceptionally fast swimming.
Another highlight this weekend was the achievement of a new Welsh Senior record from Sian Morgan in the 200m IM on a time of 2.15.05.
I also feel that I need to mention the exceptional personal bests that Eva Chapman and Natasha Wilson achieved, even though they did not manage to quite make the top tens, their performances were excellent.
I did notice that one of our neighbouring clubs City of Sheffield SC had obviously been doing some major work on their turns and underwater work as some of them were jaw dropping. My aim over the next few weeks is to try and improve our turns and underwater work substantially, in preparation for our upcoming meets.
This was a great start to our 2011/2012 season and I hope that we can build on this start and get even better as we progress through the season.
