CITY OF BRADFORD SWIMMING CLUB HALLOWEEN MEET
OCTOBER 29TH/30TH 2011 - SHIPLEY POOL
Swimmers from as far a field as Middlesbrough, York and Doncaster competed at the inaugural City of Bradford Swimming Club Halloween Meet held at Shipley Pool With competition fierce the home team looked impressive when they collected a host of medals and personal best times.
National finalists Myles Stirk and James Lund took the plaudits in their respective age groups.
Stirk produced some outstanding performances to take home no less than eight golds in the eleven years freestyle, backstroke and medley events.
Recovering from injury twelve year old Lund struck gold in all three of his favoured breaststroke events.
Also taking home three golds in the boys events were Matthew Brown and Andrew Metterick and two golds went to Sam O’Donohoe in the fifteen years and over 50m backstroke and butterfly.
Bringing up the rear were David Brown who triumphed in the fifteen and over 50m breaststroke, Jordon Tate in the 100m Breaststroke and Gianni Vienza in the 50m butterfly.
Elle Pickett sprinted to victory in the girl’s events with wins in the eleven years 50m butterfly, freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and 100m breaststroke.
In the same age group middle distance specialist Emma Blaby led the charge in the 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m medley events.
Thirteen year old Jasmine Hanson stormed to victory in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
Ellie Talbot and Isobel Stirk went on to win two golds in the fourteen years age group 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke and 50m and 100m freestyle respectively.
Other medallists were Joanna Gledhill, Isobel Mawson, Natasha Wilson, Nicole Fordham, Hannah Beaumont, Abigail Shuttlworth, Eva Chapman, Jovana Lugonja, Siobhan Akers, Azura Cairns-Poole, Hannah Midgley, Jessica Foulds, Harriet Hoban, Megan Anderton, Lucy Ward, Ryan Allen, Dale Brundle, James Blaby, George Acton, Josh Zenner, Seth Berry, Aidan Sheldon and James Dawson.
The Club’s annual Nifty Fifty Charity event featuring retired swimmers, teachers, coaches, masters swimmers, pool staff and parents raised over £700 for Cancer Research. This year the event took a new formula and was handicapped. The outright winners were the team from Bradford Swimming Club Masters. The team was made up of Michael Bonson, Sheryl Clapham, Tony O’ Donohoe, Tarn Whitworth, Ruth Rhodes and Graham Acton.
All swimmers train with Bradford Leisure Services Aquatic Competition programme at various venues throughout the city.
