ASA NORTH EAST REGION YOUTH AND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUNDERLAND AQUATIC CENTRE - April 30th –May 1st 2011

 

A small squad of City’s National Potential squad members who train under the guidance of Leisure Service’s senior coach Andy Pearce travelled to Sunderland to compete in the North East Region Youth and Senior Championships.

Time is now running out for qualification for this years National Championships but breaststroke specialist David Brown posted ASA and Youth qualifying times the 50m and 100m events. His personal best time of 29.59 in the 50m earned him a gold medal in the Youth competition and silver in the open event. His longer distance time of 1.07.81 silver was a silver medal winning performance in the youth section and earned him fifth place in the open event. He also had a best time of 26.28 in the 50m freestyle.

Luke Constantine secured a silver medal in the Youth 50m butterfly with a best time of 26.36 and third in the open event and also continued his run of good form with four further personal best times.

Sam O’Donohoe placed seventh in the youth and ninth in the open 200m backstroke.

Personal best times also came from Josh Zenner (4) Josh Walker (2) Jamie Brown (3) and Isobel Stirk (1).

Commonwealth Games representative Sian Morgan was competing in Wales over the weekend at the Welsh Youth Commonwealth Games Trials. Following her performances in Swansea she is hopefully of securing a place on the Welsh Squad for the Games to be held on the Isle of Man in September. She has already been selected for Wales for the Celtic Tri Nations Championships to be held in Swansea in June.
